For most people, life after high school gets pretty isolating.

Most people I know from high school have stuck with their high school groups and friendships. In high school, friendships form as a product of convenience and proximity.
The repeated interactions with others and shared draw friends close. But once the shared rigid schedule disappears, those bonds often wither slowly.
There are a ton of people from high school I used to regularly interact with, but now only see every few months/years.
This creates an interesting ‘shallow but deep friendship/acquaintance’ effect. I still care about these people, and I still share years of lore, but when I do catch up there’s a sense of missed time and wasted potential for memories that could’ve been made.
The conversations often default to a “we have to catch up more often” etc, with plans rarely coming to fruition.
There are a few things that significantly help me stay connected:
-
FindMy:
-
I have a lot of people’s locations on FindMy (>50), which makes it really easy to message people when I’m nearby and free and ask if they want to meet up.
-
This removes the friction of having to schedule every meetup, and I’ve met a ton of friends spontaneously by checking who’s around.
-
This is definitely one of the biggest improvements to keeping in touch for me.

Texting:
- I love texting. For some people it can be hard/draining to consistently converse over text, but personally I’m pretty energetic and extroverted in-person, over text, and on-call. Messaging is a super easy way for me to stay in touch!
-
Blogging:
- I love receiving messages/thoughts on my blog posts. Posting every day and seeing what you guys think sparks conversations in-person and online, and is another way for friends to know what topics I’m generally interested in currently.
Anyway that’s about it, I was going to flesh this out into a much longer post on reconnecting but it’s pretty late. If you’re reading this, don’t ever hesitate at all to reach out to me! I promise I would love to hang out/reconnect anytime.
