I currently weigh ~82kgs, and want to get down to ~73 by mid April. There are a few reasons for this, first lets look at my weight over the past year:

Below is my physique currently:

I want to lose weight for a few reasons:

  • Calorie restriction has been shown to improve longevity and health in basically every organism studied. Ideally I want to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible, and calorie restriction is an easy way of passively achieving that.

  • I’ve been exercising on and off for the past 2.5ish years, and think more of the potential gains in my physique will come from becoming leaner rather than putting on muscle.

  • I want to publicly commit to a challenge. Writing about this is a self experiment in seeing how well I stick to commitments I blog about. It’ll force me to really dial in and track my progress.

  • I eat ice cream almost weekly, and need to stop. In general I go out to eat a lot with friends, and want to start eating healthier without feeling the need for eating out to be the main way I hangout with friends.

  • I want to begin calisthenics/home workout based exercises, and being light/lean helps a lot with progression and starting out. Also I want to do a lot more cardio, and losing weight puts less pressure on my joints etc.

  • I want to track my food intake and it’s quite hard to track random snacks/foods when I go out. Eating at home and meal prepping allows me to have an accurate food log, which will help with self experiments and analysing trends over time.

I’m currently a 6 foot, 21 year old male weighing 82kgs who exercises around 3-5 times per week. My estimated total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) is outlined below:

So I’ll need to stick to a caloric intake of ~2000 kcal per day. I’m going to be tracking my calories with MyFitnessPal, and probably will create my own app to dynamically figure out my TDEE using daily weight logs. That’s about it, I’ll probably do other posts as I figure out meal planning, dialling in my macros and other exercises, and anything else that comes along!
