OpenAI is rumoured to enter the hardware space in late 2026/early 2027.

Imo I really hope they don’t go the pen route, unless it’s voice and camera first and the pen functionality is secondary. Below I have ranked the form factors I would like to see instead:
-
A wireless earphone type device that record audio and can relay information back to you when you ask a question etc. Ideally uses bone conduction technology so your ear holes aren’t physically plugged. If small and sleek enough can be an extremely useful augment.
-

I want shokz but subtler.
-
-
A ring, captures both health data and voice input to take notes and information. Apple is rumoured to be working on their own ring as part of their health and fitness roadmap, it’ll be interesting to see what other features they add that an Oura or Samsung rings don’t already provide. A few devices in this form factor have already been announced/launched:
-
Sandbar’s ring basically has everything I want (press to record/capture thoughts/audio, music controls, potentially shortcut integrations), I would preorder if I had the money!

-
Pebble Index 01 was recently announced.
-
Pros: Open source and customisable, no subscription unlike basically every other AI device on the market currently. Quite cheap compared to everything else ($75 USD)!
-
Cons: One time use device. Non-rechargeable battery, personally I'd record a lot so wouldn’t suit my use case, although I think for most people this would be fine.

-
A wrist band or watch. I really like my Apple Watch S9, once Apple actually ships all the Apple Intelligence features they’ve planned I think this might be the most practical and functional option out of this list. Super excited for an agentic Siri!

-
Glasses, self explanatory why these are ideal. They can combine many other technologies (cameras, mics, bone conduction speakers, AR displays) and wouldn’t look out of place on people. Excited for Meta’s future RayBan smart glasses, and also for Apple’s inevitable foray into this sector.

-
A necklace, pendant type device. Potentially useful to record video/audio but might get muffled/obscured by clothing so not as optimistic about this form factor.
-
I actually cancelled my preorder for Limitless’s Rewind Pendant because I wasn’t sure if the technology and implementation was solid yet, and also I hate the thought of being forced to pay an additional subscription for a hardware device to utilise basic functionality.
