X (formerly known as Twitter) recently overhauled it’s algorithm to be based on Grok (X.ai’s LLM like ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini).
Below is a summary of the changes

Overall I’m not sure I’m happy with this new system. It forces users and creators into specific niches, likely leading to more echo chambers.
The punishment for old posts/tweets is harsh and prevents X from being a platform that rewards evergreen content.
X is making a push towards becoming a platform for creators, however if the algorithm rewards novelty then only creators who optimise for quantity will get rewarded.
Whereas on platforms like Youtube creators like Mark Rober etc can focus on quality over quantity, which in my opinion at least lends towards better brand deals and adsense.
Kudos to X for open sourcing their algorithm, the transparency allows for more improvements and community input on what they want to see the platform become. It’s also interesting seeing transformer based models for algorithmic recommendations, and how they evolve over time.
